The World of Mono Tone

The lake, Yunoko is located 1,500 meters above sea level in Oku-Nikko.
The waterfall from Yunoko Lake named Yutaki
We jumped into an express train from Tokyo very early in the morning on January 30, 2025 to get a view of natural scene in winter. Over half the national land area of Japan is snowy. In Tokyo, we seldom see a snow-covered landscape. We want to do it and rushed to the site.
The Kanto Plain
The express train we boarded is running toward those mountains. Mountains line the Japanese archipelago like a giant backbone. In winter, cold air mass from Siberia absorbing moisture of the Sea of Japan hitting the mountains cause a heavy snowfall on the Sea of Japan side. On the other hand, on the Pacific Ocean side like the Kanto Plain including Tokyo has continued dry and sunny days though the wind is very cold.
Running to Nikko Yumoto Hot Spring Resort
Nikko attracts tourists throughout the year. Nikko is well known for Toshogu Shrine and other religious facilities. Besides, nature and hot spring in Oku-Nikko are wonderful. In winter, in Oku-Nikko, we can enjoy skiing. It takes 2 hours to Tobu Nikko Station by train and from Tobu Nikko Station it takes 80 minutes by bus to Nikko Yumoto hot spring resort.
Ski school students and their instructor
Nikko Yumoto Ski Resort is small and unpretentious one. We see many school students taking skiing lessons.
A small wooden bridge over Yunoko
Alongside Yunotaki, we are able to walk up to Yunoko from the bottom of the waterfall. After walking up on the steep stairs, we are soon reaching the bridge.
That is Ryuzu Waterfall which is more famous than Yutaki Waterfall.
Ryuzu Waterfall is near Chuzenji Lake. There are a lot of scenic beauty in Oku-Nikko. Nikko has an irresistible attraction with history and nature.
