Mt. Fuji Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine

The shrine is the headquarters of 1,300 sengen shrines all over Japan.

On January 9, 2025, I boarded Shinkansen from Tokyo and changed into a local train to get a view that Shinkansen co-star with Mt. Fuji.

The railroad bridge over Fuji River
Shinkansen is running fast westward between Shin-Fuji Station and Shizuoka Station.
In the car of running Shinkansen
Through the window, we see Mt. Fuji in the distance. Now Shinkansen is running in Kanagawa Prefecture near Odawara City. If we board Shinkansen and want to get a good view of Mt. Fuji, E seats(on the side of window) are the best ones. From Mishima Station to Shizuoka Station, we can get a good view only if it is fine.
The worship hall and main hall of the Shrine
Mt. Fuji Hongu Sengen Taisya Shrine originated more than 2,000 years ago when Mt. Fuji erupted and heavily damaged the large area around Mt. Fuji. People needed to appease anger of the deities of the mountain so the shrine was founded and dedicated to Asama-no-Okami(the shrine's name comes from Asama). The shrine has its rear hall on the summit of Mt. Fuji. It means the shrine extends to the top of Mt. Fuji.
The groundwater from Mt. Fuji fills the pond.
In the past, the worshippers of the shrine purified themselves with the water before climbing Mt. Fuji. The water spring out of the pond after it has underflowed from Mt. Fuji for a long time. The pond is designated as a special natural monument by the government.
Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center
That cultural facility is wonderful. Mt. Fuji was registered on a list of World Cultural Heritages in 2013. The center opened in 2017. The movie theater, exhibition and other settings in the center are well designed.
A spiral virtual mountain trail in the center
Visitors feel like they climb Mt. Fuji while seeing visual explanation and landscape on screen in a different way. And then we finally reach the deck to view Mt. Fuji. We are happy to get close to Mt. Fuji and moved.
Sake brewery in Fujinomiya City since 1830
The important factors to make sake are water, rice and all producers' heart. Buying sake at the brewry is recommended as a memory of the trip.
We are having fried noodle for lunch.
The fried noodle served in Fujinomiya is a local specialty.

We can have a nice one day trip around Mt. Fuji to experience nature, culture, food and other things. On the next week end, I will show you another one day trip along with viewing Mt. Fuji on the site.
