JR Sakuragicho Station to Yamashita Park

We see The Land Mark Tower near JR Sakuragicho Station which is 296 meters tall and has the obserbatory named Sky Garden.  

We are seeing Yokohama Port(Osanbashi, International Passenger Terminal), Yamashita Park, Sankeien Garden, Yokohama Bay Bridge and Miura Peninsula in the distance. The observatory named Sky Garden is nice not only to get a panorama but also to sit down and relax for a while.  

We are lucky to see Mt. Fuji. After leaving The Land Mark Tower, we are walking on the promnade. 

That curve shaped old-style pier is nicknamed "the nose of an elephant".
Yokohama was one of 5 ports opened up to western countries in 1859 and the history of Yokohama Port started from the pier.  
That picture depicted cargo handling operation at the pier called the nose of an elephant in 1870, three years after Japan started modernization.
Main export product of Japan was raw silk before World War Ⅱ.

We have got to Yamashita Park.

Yamashita Park was constructed and opened to the public in 1930, seven years after the Great Kanto Earthquake struck Yokohama and Tokyo. The debris left by the earthquake were used for the construction of the park.

Hotel New Grand is the most prestigious one in Yokohama. That main building was opened in 1927. New building or the tower was opened in 1991. After Japan offered unconditional surrender to Allies in 1945, the Supreme Commander, Douglas MacArthur stayed at the hotel at first in Japan.
The agreement of sister city between San Diego and Yokohama was concluded in 1957.
The statue of guardian of water inside the fountains in Yamashita Park: It was donated by the City of San Diego in 1960.
