Spring on Inui Street

Special days for civil citizens all over the world

In spring and autumn, Inui Street in the Imperial Palace inner grounds is opened to the public for 9 days. It is good opportunities to get a view of both cherry blossoms and colored autumn leaves. 

Entry into Sakashitamon Gate
This year, 2025, Inui Street in the inner grounds are opened to the public from March 29 to April 6.
The Palace
Ceremonies, official functions like meetings and banquets with the state guests are held in the Palace.

After we walk through Sakshitamon Gate, we see the Palace building built in 1968.

The Imperial Household Agency
The administrative institution of the government takes charge of the state matters concerning the Imperial Family.
One of Edo Castle buildings
That is a watch tower built in the mid 17th century. The Imperial Palace Grounds were the former Edo Castle for Shogun, the leader of samurai.

Next, we see those two buildings while walking.

Cherry blossoms in full bloom
In the background of the photo, the white plastered wall is seen. That is called Fujimi Tamon which was the defensive facility of the castle.
Dokanbori moat and cherry trees
Dokan is a given name of a well known samurai active in the 15th century. He was high-ranking and conducted construction of the original Edo Castle.
Ending Walking on the Street
We are getting closer to Inui Gate. From Sakashitamon Gate, we are going to finish walking through Inui Street.
